Exuma Pigs

November 01, 2014

The pigs are said to have been dropped off on Big Major Cay in Exuma by a group of sailors who wanted to come back and cook them. One other legend has it that the pigs were survivors of a shipwreck and managed to swim to shore, while another claims that the pigs had escaped from a nearby island.

Yes, the pigs swim several hundred feet out to boats in hopes of a hand-out!

And when they take to the water, you – if you so choose – can join them. While the pigs don’t seem to mind fellow swimmers, their focus is on the food. Indeed, they sometimes board boats uninvited in search of snacks!

Thunderball Grotto, Exuma Cays

October 31, 2014

The Bahamas is definitely one of the most beautiful places in the world, but I don't think much can compare to the Exumas, Bahamas especially Thunderball grotto near Staniel Cay! This beautiful, erie cave is located in the shallow water off the small island of Staniel Cay which you can either take a boat to, or at low tide its possible to swim/walk over to it from the islands Yacht Club. Once there you can wade around to the entrance and walk through the low hanging cave entrance.

For the more adventurous there are a couple holes underwater that are lined with gorgeous bright corals and dozens of small colorful fish, that nibble at your toes! You can swim through these small holes and come out into the center of the cave, where you will find crystal clear blue water and spotlights shinning through the roofs holes. The high ceiling of the cave is lit by the 3 large holes at the top that you can also jump through, by climbing along the outside and scaling the wall to get to the top where you can hop through the hole into the center of the caves pool.

As well as attracting tourists Thunderball has also made appearances in famous movies, such as the James Bond movie Thunderball that was filmed there as well as Never Say Never Again, Splash starring Tom Hanks and Into the Blue with Jessica Alba and Paul Walker. Starting to look familiar?

Whether you want to go for your honeymoon, family vacation, or just to go out and see some of the wonders of the world thunder ball is a must see for everyone from the thrill seekers to the couple on a romantic vacation, to the family looking for some fun!
